When should you revise a chapter?

Revise a topic soon after you learn it, then again at growing gaps. A simple schedule many students use is 1 day, 3 days, 7 days, 14 days and 30 days after first studying it. Each revision should be a quick self-test, not a full re-read.
Why you need a schedule
More than a hundred years ago, Hermann Ebbinghaus showed that memory fades fast at first and then more slowly: the "forgetting curve". Each time you successfully recall something, the curve becomes flatter and the memory lasts longer. Revising at the right time means you catch the memory just before it fades.

The exact gaps matter less than the idea: start close together, then spread out. If you get a topic wrong, bring the next review closer.
Common mistakes
- Re-reading instead of testing. Revision should make you recall, not just look.
- Only revising favourite subjects. Weak topics need the schedule most.
- Keeping track in your head. After 20 topics, nobody remembers which is due when. Write it down or use an app.
